4. Loving London

Friday, May 17

We slept 12 hours that first night and had sore legs in the morning. But after a shower and great breakfast, we were good to go. We went off to explore London on our own with new confidence and skills taught to us by Steve. Still no suitcases. We were glad for the clean socks and tooth brushes given to us in little packets at the airport. We should have suitcases by the afternoon. We had to be ready to meet our tour group Saturday morning and would be heading north.

Did I mention we LOVE London? What a great time exploring.

We walked up to Kensington Park and down the paths to see Kensington Palace where Princess Di lived. The park is so beautiful with lots of overgrown greenery, huge trees, flowers and birds.

Many people had dogs who were also enjoying themselves. We took our time appreciating the openness and peace and stopped to take pictures of the Peter Pan Statue.

Such a lovely place. London has so many beautiful parks that you forget you're in a huge city.

Then we walked on to Selfridges Department Store. It was a must see as we're watching the story of the store on Masterpiece Theatre at home. It was unbelievable from the windows to the food to the displays. We didn't buy anything, just looked. Pictures couldn't do it justice.  We felt pretty small town.

From there we took a bus to Harrods, which was also impressive. We bought ice cream and wandered. It was just fun to see all that was offered...like octopus. Yuck!

Time was flying so we got back on the tube and went back to Westminster Abbey to attend the Evensong 5:00 Service. Most of the service is in music and so inspirational. I wish we could have taken pictures. Beautiful is not a big enough word.

After the service we walked along the River Thames and through a street fair with incredible food to taste. We could have bought a bundle, but we didn't have a place to store it. We walked through Trafalgar Square

and on to Piccadilly Circus before finally heading back on the tube to our hotel neighborhood where we picked up some easy food from a Whole Foods for our dinner.

Our suitcases were finally there and we were ready to crash for the night. Tomorrow morning the tour begins as we meet our group and head out. We can't even imagine how much more we could see. Good night for now. We're feeling pretty sassy about this traveling stuff.
